An Adventure in The Cultural and Natural History of Costa Rica
Tropical Adventures in Education (TAE) is organizing an exciting, fun-filled and relaxing educational experience in Cultural & Natural History in Latin America for 2010. TAE will host a 12-day experience to central and southern Costa Rica. First we will travel through the Central Mountains and Cerro de la Muerte (alt. 3400 meters) to spend the night at the Trogon Lodge (www.grupomawamba.com/trogonlodge/index.html) and search the trails for the famous Resplendent Quetzal the next day. We will then journey to the Osa Peninsula and a short drive to Cabo Matapalo. The group will spend 3 nights at the Encanta La Vida Lodge (www.encantalavida.com) and explore the beautiful beaches of the Golfo Dulce and the Pacific coast. The Osa Peninsula and the Corcovado National Park are one of the most diverse regions in all of Central America where we will see the many species of monkeys, scarlet macaws and sloths. Here the jungle meets the beaches! From Osa we will then journey to the amazing private biological reserve in Dominical, Hacienda Baru (www.haciendabaru.com). Here we will explore the beach and forest reserve for 3 nights with opportunities to see the tropical world via the canopy top. Then we will work out way up the Pacific coast for a one-night stay at Hotel la Isla at Playa Palo Seco (http://www.laislahotel.com) to explore the amazing mangrove forests via boat. Finally we will journey back to San Jose/Alajuela via the small community of Mastatal and tour an sustainable development project called Rancho Mastatal (www.ranchomastatal.com). Our last day we will experience the culture of Alajuela, one of Costa Rica’s largest cities before returning stateside or extending your own adventure.
